This year the 6th Annual People of the Pend Oreille Golf Tournament will be held at the Kalispel Golf & Country Club on July 7th. This fundraising event seeks to raise money for local youth organizations. This year the proceeds will benefit the following organizations:
- The Panther Pride Athletic Association (PPAA) assists Cusick School District student-athletes and coaches with sports-related costs. The PPAA helps with everything from athletic shoes to ASB cards to feeding the team on long road trips.
- The Pend Oreille County Fair is a celebration of our rural lifestyle that brings our community together. Many local families plan their summer schedule around this annual event. The tradition and culture of the fair are prized by our community, as are the values of hard work and responsibility that it instills in our youth. Members of the fair have consistently volunteered at this fundraising tournament.
- Youth Emergency Services (Y.E.S.) provides shelter and safety for teens in Pend Oreille County that are homeless or at risk of being homeless. Y.E.S. believes that every teen matters.
- Create is a resource in Pend Oreille County that provides expression, enjoyment, and appreciation for the arts through education.
The very first People of the Pend Oreille Golf Tournament was held back in 2012 at Deer Park Golf Course. That year about $6,000 was raised for youth organizations while last year’s tournament netted over $20,000.
Those who are not golfers or who are not able to attend the event can still get involved in this worthwhile cause by donating items for the silent auction or raffle. For more information please contact Kim Swennumson at (509) 447-7424.
